Garden gates
Side gates, garden gates and driveway gates fitted by local Eastbourne fencers.
Most fencers also make and hang gates, from a single side gate to double driveway gates. A gate takes more wind and wear than any panel, so posts, hinges and latches matter more than the gate itself.
What it costs
A timber garden or side gate is typically £250 to £700 fitted. Double driveway gates usually cost £450 to £1,200, more for automated gates.
What to ask for
- Heavy duty hinges and a gate stop, so wind cannot slam it
- A ledged and braced frame, with the brace running the right way so the gate does not sag
- A lockable latch on side gates for security
Common questions
Do I need planning for a gate?
Not normally, if it is under 1m next to a road or 2m elsewhere.
Can a gate be fitted to my existing fence?
Usually, though a new gate post set in concrete is often needed.
